Ingredient Spotlight: Ceramides

What is a ceramide?
Ceramides are a type of lipid molecule that are found in
high concentrations in the outermost layer of the skin.
They are a crucial component of the skin barrier, playing
a vital role in maintaining the skin's natural moisture

The stratum corneum (outer most layer) is composed of
layers of flat dead skin cells, called corneocytes, that are
surrounded by a lipid matrix made up of ceramides,
cholesterol, and fatty acids. This lipid matrix acts as a
barrier between the skin and the outside environment,
preventing moisture loss and protecting the skin from
external stressors like pollution, UV radiation, and
pathogens.
